STARS Swimming from Buffalo, NY hosted many clubs from across New York, Michigan and Ontario this past weekend for the Early June Invitational Swim meet. Athletes swam their hearts out to earn medals in the 86 different events. Club Warriors Swimmers, representing Club Wolverine, showed a wonderful performance in their second Long Course Meet of this season. The swimmers efforts were rewarded with 36 medals; 11 gold, 17 silver and 8 bronze medals. "Everyone in the team worked really hard and we were all happy going home with so much hardware", said Roger Hess, CW Age Group Coach.
The 10 & under girls and boys won a total of 21 medals. Bailey Duff won Gold in the 50 & 200 Breast and 50 Back. Leah Meklensek also brought home gold medals for the 50 Free, 50 & 100 Fly; Silvers in 50 & 200 Back, 100 & 200 Free and 200 IM. Also working hard was Grace Solylo, who finished first in 100 Back and third in 100 Free. Teodor Kolev earned Silver medals in 200 IM, Free and Back, and Bronze in 50 & 100 Free, 100 Back and Breast events respectively in the boys division.
In the 11-12 category, adding to the club’s medal count was Emma Tonellato, who placed First in the 50 Back and second in 200 Back. Sarah Murphy won the Silver medals in 50 Free, Back and Breast. Sydney Hirsch also got a Silver medal in the 50 Free event. Jonah Read got his Bronze medal in the 100 Backstroke event. The 11-12 girls A relay teams earned Gold medals in the 200 & 400 Medley and free relays.
In the open division, 13-year old Lexi Meklensek came in second in the 100 & 200 Back and Third in 100 Free.
All in all, the Club Warriors did great in the Star Long Course Meet. Next up is the end of June invitational in Buffalo and the Ohio State Championship meet the first weekend in July.
